Frequently Asked Questions

What time do we meet and where do we launch?
I typically wait until the day before your trip to set the exact meeting time and ramp location. This allows me to put us on the best current bite and conditions. If you have a specific preference (morning/afternoon/launch area) or need an earlier confirmation, just let me know when you book and I’ll work with you.

Do you offer group or corporate trips?
Yes, I welcome group and corporate trips! With sufficient notice, I can organize multiple guide boats for larger groups. Use of a pontoon boat can also be arranged for your trip when requested for an additional fee, if circumstances allow. This is ideal for larger family groups that are looking to slow down, kick back on the the lake and cast a line.

How many people can go on a trip?
Trips are designed for 1–2 anglers. A third person can be added for an additional $150 (space and conditions permitting). Use of a pontoon boat can also be arranged for up to 6 passengers when requested, for an additional fee. This is ideal for larger family groups that are looking to slow down, kick back on the the lake and cast a line.

What is included in the trip?
Everything you need is provided: boat, rods, reels, tackle, instruction, and a photo package of your day. You just need to bring yourself, appropriate clothing, sunscreen, drinks/snacks, and a valid Alabama freshwater fishing license. There is also an onboard cooler with ice and water provided on every trip.

Do I need a fishing license?
Yes, with certain age exceptions. You must provide your own Alabama freshwater fishing license. You can purchase one online here: Outdoor Alabama License Portal
I also recommend downloading the free Outdoor Alabama app, it makes buying and storing your license easy on your phone.

What species do you target?

  • Bass – Year-round
  • Crappie – Year-round
  • Sauger / Walleye – December through March
  • Shellcracker & Bluegill – Late April through July, around the full moon cycle

What are your rates?

  • 4-Hour Trip: $450 (1–2 people)
  • 6-Hour Trip: $550 (1–2 people)
  • Additional person: +$150
  • Extra hours: $50 per hour

A $100 deposit is required to hold your date. The deposit is non-refundable within 30 days of the trip but can be applied to a reschedule within 3 months of the original date. If I cancel the trip due to bad weather, the deposit will be refunded.

Do you offer discounts?
Yes. As a law enforcement veteran, I’m happy to offer a 10% discount to veterans and first responders.

What should I bring?
Comfortable clothes suitable for the weather, rain gear if needed, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, snacks, and drinks. I’ll provide all fishing equipment.

Is smoking allowed on the boat?
No smoking is allowed on board. We can stop on shore if needed. Unfortunately, a few folks ruined it by burning multiple holes in my carpet forcing it to be replaced.

Are beginners welcome?
Absolutely. I fish with anglers of all skill levels and enjoy teaching. Whether it’s your first time or you’re an experienced angler, the trip is customized to your goals. Communicate what your needs and goals are for the trip and I will make every effort for a successful day on the water.

Are kids welcome?
Of course! I enjoy watching kids learn, build skills, and catch fish. It reminds me of when I was growing up fishing with my dad and grandpa. Family trips are some of my favorites.

Where will we be fishing?
I do not restrict myself to one area of the lake. I chase the best bite based on current conditions, season, and fish activity. Adjustments can be made to fish a specific area upon request, especially for tutorial-type trips such as vacation prep or electronics training.

Can you pick me up from my boat house or lake house?
Yes. I regularly pick up clients who have a lake house or are renting a lakefront home. So long as we are fishing reasonably close that day, it can be arranged. In addition, I often pick up clients staying at Lake Guntersville State Park from the dock.

What happens in bad weather?
Weather on Lake Guntersville can be tricky and forecasts often change. If there is an obvious high risk of severe weather moving in, I will cancel or reschedule the trip, sometimes very close to the departure time. I do fish in the rain, but I will not fish in severe weather such as lightning or extreme dangerous winds. Safety always comes first. If I make the decision to cancel due to weather, your deposit can be refunded.

Where should I stay?
There are several good options in the area, here’s a few that I work with:

  • Angler’s Retreat in Scottsboro – Cabins popular with anglers, close to multiple boat ramps. If you are here for a true fishing vacation, this spot is close to several ramps and has the basic necessities for comfort after a long day on the water. Each cabin has covered boat parking and a plug in for charging. Mention my name when booking to receive a discount. Click the link to view their website.
  • City Harbor Suites in Guntersville – Convenient waterfront suites with boat-friendly amenities. Ideal for the family with room to spread out and restaurants steps away. There is also on site secured boat parking with plug ins for charging. Be sure to use the the above link for a discount through me.

What else is there to do in the area? (Especially for the family?)
While fishing on Lake Guntersville is the main event for most clients, Jackson County and the surrounding Mountain Lakes region have much more to offer if you’re bringing the family or want to extend your stay. As a proud member of the Mountain Lakes Chamber of Commerce, I recommend visiting their site for the best attractions, family activities, events, and additional lodging options: Visit Jackson County. It’s a simple way to transform a fishing trip into a complete North Alabama adventure.
